Barry University Celebrates 80th Anniversary on “Barry University Day” in Miami Shores

(MIAMI, FL) Today, Barry University President, Dr. Mike Allen, led a physically distanced celebration with a ceremonial cake cutting in honor of the university’s 80th Anniversary. In recognition of Barry’s eight decades in the village, Miami Shores Mayor Crystal Wagar issued a video proclamation officially declaring Friday, November 13, 2020 Barry University Day.

“Much has changed since Barry College for Women opened its doors in 1940 and welcomed our first 45 students,” President Allen said. “But our foundation and our core commitments to the pursuit of knowledge and truth, an inclusive community, social justice and collaborative service endure.”

Now, Barry University proudly enrolls more than 7,000 students across two colleges and five schools which span two campuses and several sites throughout Florida and the Bahamas. Nearly 80 countries are represented in the student body.

Students, faculty and staff enjoyed cupcakes before joining the University’s Community Fest, part of its annual Founders’ Week Celebration.

Video of the cake cutting is available for download.
