This program is designed for the BSN graduates with a nursing license (RN), who want to achieve the highest level of nurse education through an efficient path while developing the professional opportunities that lead to life-long achievement.
The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) represents the highest level of formal education for a career in research and the scholarship of discovery. It prepares scholars for the expression and communication of the knowledge base in the profession. The PhD graduate develops the science, stewards the profession, educates the next generation of nurses, defines its uniqueness, and maintains its professional integrity.
The PhD in Nursing is an interdisciplinary program in which you take classes in both the School of Education and the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. By studying in an interdisciplinary environment, you will complete contextual, methodological, and substantive coursework. Your coursework will revolve around the topic area of social determinants of health, which is critical to the future of nursing science and practice.
You can pursue your PhD within one of our cohorts throughout Florida:
- Barry University’s main campus in Miami (begins in fall or spring)
- Off-campus cohorts, which are evaluated yearly and implemented as needed
- 20% tuition discount applies to students in the PhD in nursing program.
- Tuition can be off-set by the Nurse Faculty Loan Program, which provides up to 85% of the tuition costs if graduates teach a minimum of 4 years full-time upon graduation. Ask about the program details
