ADSOE Reading Alumna Hosts Young Authors Event

Marie Jasmin, a reading/literacy coach at Pioneer Park Elementary School and 2011 graduate of Barry University’s EdS in Reading program, recently planned and implemented a young authors event for more than 335 students at the Palm Beach County school.

The focus of the “Young Authors Garden Party” was to encourage literacy. Students in all five grade levels wrote and illustrated original stories or researched information and presented in book form using the Bare Books format.

The event was open to the community, including parents, school district and community leaders and university professors. Attendees were pleased to see an extraordinary effort and production from a whole school of elementary students.  Associate Professor of Reading and participant Dr. Joyce Warner commented, “This event is a testimony to Ms. Jasmin’s work as a literacy leader.”
