Occupational Therapy Month

Occupational Therapy Month

Do you know that April is National Occupational Therapy Month?

Occupational therapy is a part of a vitally important health profession that helps people across their lifespan to participate in the things they want and need to do through the therapeutic use of everyday activities.

Occupational therapy enables people of all ages to live life to its fullest by helping them promote health, prevent or live better with injury, illness, or disability.

It is a practice deeply rooted in science and is evidence-based, meaning that the plan designed for each individual is supported by data, experience, and “best practices” that have been developed and proven over time.

The Occupational therapy practitioners’ holistic and customized approaches to evaluations, interventions, and outcomes help a child with disabilities participate in school and in social situations. Also, occupational therapy assists a person recovering from injuries to regain skills, aids an older adult to stay as independent as possible, and offers the specialized support and services to people of all ages and in all circumstances, according to The American Occupational Therapy Association, Inc.

The College of Health Sciences’ Occupational Therapy Program at Barry University offers an innovative curriculum that leads to a Master of Science degree and prepares students for certification as a registered occupational therapist.
