English Professor featured as guest speaker at Temple Beth Israel author series

Barry University professor of English, Andrea Greenbaum, recently appeared as a featured speaker at Temple Beth Israel to discuss her 2005 book, “Jews of South Florida.”  The event was part of Temple Beth Israel’s Book Bites series which features local authors.

“Jews of South Florida” covers the topics of American Jewish history, culture, and life. The book offers a history of the development of Jewish life in the region, from its modest start at the end of the nineteenth century to the beginning of the twenty-first century. It includes demographic and historical overviews of Jewish settlement in South Florida, various essays on topics including Jewish education in South Florida and prominent members of the Jewish community, and an in-depth look at the unique Latin flavor of the South Florida Jewish community. The book contains more than 130 accompanying photographs.

Though published 10 years ago, Greenbaum is frequently asked to speak about the book as it has become one of the preeminent historical accounts of the South Florida Jewish population.

“Jews of South Florida” was first published in 2005 by Brandeis. The 268 page book is available for sale on Amazon at the following link: http://www.amazon.com/Andrea-Greenbaum/e/B001JS0XUY.
