School of Podiatric Medicine hosts 2016 Commencement

Barry University’s School of Podiatric Medicine honored 55 distinguished graduates on April 30 during its 2016 Commencement Ceremony. Of those graduating, 95 percent have placed in residency programs.

Dr. Albert Armstrong, Dean of the School of Podiatric Medicine, was joined onstage by 19 faculty members and by trustees Sister Andrea Balconis and Ms. Maura Owens.

Dr. Sherunda Simone Josey, ’08, served as the commencement’s keynote speaker, and Dr. Diana Rogers, ’06 and ’08, presented the Dr. Irving and Muriel Block Radiology Award and Florida Podiatric Medical Association (FPMA) Past President’s Scholarship Award on behalf of the FPMA. Drs. Augusta Dunse and Philip Adam Jones, valedictorians of the Class of 2015, served as marshals for the ceremony.

Many members of the Class of 2016 were recognized for additional honors, including the following:

  • Drs. Zubeen Mistry and Calvin Rushing were class valedictorians, each attaining a 4.0 GPA
  • Drs. Peter Hanna, Sara Rose and Michael Sosinski were among those students presented with awards in leadership, community service and research
  • Drs. Valeria Alfano-Guerriero, Brian Asencio, Dylan Carlisle,  Rosabel Loya, Nelson Maniscalco, Zubeen Mistry, Katherine Morrison, Adam Oxios, Jack Routé, Calvin Rushing, Carl Speer and Philip Matthew Woods were inducted into Barry University's Eta Chapter of the Pi Delta National Podiatric Honor Society
