Alumni Corner: Dr. Peter D. Highlander

Peter D. Highlander, DPM, MS is a reconstructive podiatric foot and ankle surgeon in Bellevue, Ohio. In 2018, Dr. Highlander formed The Reconstruction Institute, which presently provides orthopedic and podiatric surgical services to north-central Ohio. He currently serves as fellowship director at The Reconstruction Institute and medical director at The Bellevue Hospital Wound Center.

Dr. Highlander’s interest in 3D printing and its utilization in complex foot and ankle reconstruction has led to multiple headlines and accolades. In 2018, he was named “Physician Innovator” by Crain’s Cleveland Business for his development and utilization of custom 3D-printed implants. He serves on the advisory board for the Miller 3D Print Lab and as an Associate Clinical Professor at The University of Toledo College of Medicine. In addition, he is a founding member and current Secretary of the American Orthopaedic Society of 3D Printing. His dedication and enthusiasm for innovation has led to multiple on-going patent-pending and research projects.

A 2011 graduate of Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine, Dr. Highlander completed his residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He and his wife, Lindsey, have three children and reside in Bellevue, Ohio.
