With COVID-19 cases rising significantly in states across the nation, including Florida, and numbers expected to continue to climb, it is critical that all students, faculty and staff maintain vigilance when it comes to wearing face coverings and practicing physical distancing as well as good hygiene.
Our case count within the Barry University community has been low, but this is not the time to become complacent. As we head into a potentially more challenging time, it continues to be the responsibility of every member of our university community to Take the Lead in promoting health and safety, guarding against the spread of infection, and protecting the most vulnerable among us.
Changes to Face Covering Policy
Given the increase in COVID-19 cases in Florida, as well as a jump in the positivity rate in Miami-Dade County, face coverings are again required outdoors at all Barry University locations, even when in groups of less than 5.
The only time it is permissible to not wear a face covering at a Barry University campus or site is if you are alone, in your residence hall room with your roommate, or actively eating. When resident students have visitors, face coverings are required for all individuals.
Compliance with Face Covering Policy
In the interest of protecting all members of the Barry community, the university will strictly enforce compliance at all campuses and sites, with students, faculty and staff subject to their respective disciplinary policies.
Additionally, this is a true community effort and the expectation is that our students, faculty and staff will encourage adherence to the policy if they see individuals on campus who are not following required guidelines. We are in this together, and continued success requires the effort of every member of our university community.
COVID-19 Initial Notification Form
As a reminder, all individuals within the Barry University community must complete a COVID-19 initial notification form if they are experiencing symptoms, have been exposed to someone diagnosed with the disease, or have themselves been diagnosed with COVID-19.
It is important that the form be filled out immediately at the onset of symptoms or suspected exposure so contact tracing can begin, limiting the potential spread of infection. Please do not wait for test results to complete the notification.
