Registration Underway for March 12 Event Registration for Barry’s inaugural Community Engagement Symposium is in full swing. The registration site is www.barry.edu/CASEvent. The symposium will be held on Wednesday, March 12, on Barry’s main campus, with the main sessions in Andreas 111, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Additional details are on the CCSI homepage (click on the symposium image). Dr. Robert G. Bringle, an internationally recognized service-learning and civic engagement expert, will be the lead presenter at the symposium. Bringle has won recognition for service-learning and civic engagement from several organizations, including Campus Compact and the International Association for Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement. The symposium is free for both the campus and community partners; however, registration is required. Service-Learning Expert to Speak at Event Robert G. Bringle, Ph.D. (Social Psychology, University of Massachusetts, 1974), an internationally recognized service-learning and civic engagement expert, will be the guest speaker at Barry’s inaugural Community Engagement Awards on Wednesday, March 12. This event coincides with the inaugural Community Engagement Symposium. Dr. Bringle is the Kulynych/Cline Visiting Distinguished Professor of Psychology at Appalachian State University. He also is Professor Emeritus of Psychology and Philanthropic Studies and Senior Scholar in the Center for Service and Learning at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). Dr. Bringle received the SOS Service Award in 1995, the Thomas Ehrlich Faculty Award for Service Learning from Campus Compact in 1998, and the Legacy of Service Award from Indiana Campus Compact in 2012. In 2004, he was recognized at the 4th Annual International Service-Learning Research Conference for his outstanding contributions to the service-learning research field.
