Dr. Brett Engle, PhD, LCSW, teaches advanced clinical practice courses for working with individuals, families and groups. He currently researches how social workers, healthcare and other professionals develop competency in motivational interviewing and person-centered practice. Motivational interviewing is a brief, evidence-based therapeutic approach for reducing health risk behaviors.

Dr. Engle has widely published on adolescent substance misuse interventions. In 2006, he received a NIH grant (1 F31 DA 020233-01A1) examining adolescent commitment language during group treatment as a predictor of marijuana use outcomes.

Dr. Engle is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and clinical supervisor in the state of Florida. He is also a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers and conducts trainings nationally and in Latin America in English and Spanish.
