April 2019 BSW Student of the Month

Devlin Taylor has been awarded the BSW Student of the Month award. The BSW Student of the Month is awarded to students holding a GPA of 3.0 or higher who participate collaboratively within the School of Social Work and promote an inclusive environment in line with Barry and the School's mission. We are very proud of you for exemplofying what it means to be the voice of change. 

Devlin Taylor sat down for an interview with one of our BSW Student Representatives. Please read the interview below to learn more about out April 2019 BSW Student of the Month. 

 

Q: Tell me a little bit about yourself.

 

A: I am originally from St. Petersburg Florida, but I as raised in a small military town in North Carolina. I am married and I have 3 children.

 

Q: How does it feel to be the student of the month?

 

A: To be student of the month is very humbling.

 

Q: What advice would you give a peer who might want to become the student of the month?

 

A: Just keep the focus and give your best.

 

Q: Are you proud of what you have so far achieved?

 

A: I am very proud I honestly never thought I would have made it this far.

 

Q: Would you consider yourself a role model?

 

A: Absolutely I am the first to graduate in my family and all my children now has college in their minds even at a young age.

 

Q: Do you have any study habits? If yes, what are they?

 

A: Yes, I use flash cards, I usually study for about 30 mins in the morning and 30 mins at night.

 

Q: What do you do in your free time?

 

A: Spending time with my family and friends. Cooking and shopping.

 

Q: What has been your experience in Barry University?

 

A: This has been a wonderful experience from the faculty down to my cohorts. You learn yourself and the things that you thought you would never do you do.

 

Q: What chances would you like to see implemented with the School of Social Work?

 

A: I would love for the different cohorts to intermingle more. That way we can help each other with tips and things.

 

Q: What are your career goals?

 

A: I would love to work with substance abuse as well as domestic violence victims. Its hard to choose at this point but those are my passions.  Would love open a shelter for dv and work in a treatment facility for veterans with substance abuse.

 

Q: What is the highest educational degree you want to pursue?

 

A: LCSW

 

Q: Is there anything else you would like for the School of Social Work Faculty and Staff to know? Any hidden talents?

 

A: I love to sing
