For reasons of safety, health and sanitation, pets of any type are not allowed in any University owned or leased building under any circumstances. This policy includes all University residence units (halls, houses, apartments).

Pets may not be taken into a University building except as listed below:

  • Service animals as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (Please see polices on service animals under Office of Disability Services)
  • K9 dogs performing their duties under supervision
  • Animals maintained on campus in non-residential areas for research and/or laboratory purposes, with the approval of teaching, research and/or service departments

Any dog or other domestic animal on University grounds must be leashed and in the control of their owners in accord with the ordinances of the Village of Miami Shores. Under no circumstances should animals be allowed to run loose or be tied to buildings, handrails, trees, bicycle racks or any other object. Any infractions or complains should be brought to the attention of Public Safety (305) 899-3333.
