School of Education Crisis Intervention Workshop

The School of Education invites the Barry community to attend a Crisis Intervention Workshop.

Date: Friday, April 5, 2013
Time: 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Cost: Students – $10 | CE’s – $15

This workshop will provide an overview of crisis, its various causes and the manifestation of crisis symptoms in individuals. It will also provide basic attending and active listening skills that can be utilized in crisis intervention. The application of these skills to suicide assessment and prevention will be introduced.

About the Instructor:

Dr. Sharron M. Singleton joined the Barry University School of Social Work faculty in 1993. She holds a BSW degree from Norfolk State University, an MSW from Ohio State University, and a DSW from Howard University. Dr. Singleton’s clinical practice has focused on medical social work, psychiatric social work, practice with women, and work with older persons and their families. Some of her research interests lay in the areas of mental health/mental illness (those who live with mental illness, best practices, quality of life, and student learning), ethnic identity, gate keeping for the profession, and oppression.
