Doctoral Symposium: An Intellectual Discourse for Students Conducting Advanced Research

The School of Social Work is excited to announce a doctoral symposium featuring Dr. Deborah Padgett, Professor of Social Work and Global Public Health at New York University. Dr. Padgett, an internationally recognized qualitative researcher will talk about her unique ethnographic research, moving from quantitative to qualitative methodology conducting a large scale research study with vulnerable populations in her study “Making the Connection: The Value of Qualitative Methods in Community Research using the Housing First Model”. Doctoral students studying social work, nursing, health sciences, education, mental health, social sciences and allied professions are invited to attend. We are excited about the social networking among South Florida doctoral students from various disciplines of study, and the intellectual discussions related to the challenges and rewards associated with conducting advanced research.

  • Keynote by Dr. Deborah Padgett, Professor of Social Work and Global Public Health,  New York University,  on “Making the Connection: The Value of Qualitative Methods in Community Research using the Housing First Model”. Dr. Padgett will provide an overview of her qualitative research findings on Housing First services for families who have been housing-compromised and lessons learned in the reverse-trajectory of quantitative-qualitative methodology in a large-scale study.
