Barry Law School Recognized by Florida Bar for Professionalism Program

Barry University’s Dwayne O. Andreas School of Law has earned the Florida Bar’s Group Professionalism Award for the Law School’s program which mandates that Barry Law students satisfy a professionalism requirement in order to graduate.

Dean Leticia M. Diaz said, “Professionalism is of paramount importance to the Law School.  As such it is quite an honor for Barry Law School to be recognized for its effort to create a culture of professionalism.”

Barry Law students are required to complete six hours of Professional Enhancement by attending pre-approved professionalism programs.  The programs are sponsored by various law school departments as well as student organizations and specifically address the essential ingredients of professionalism - character, competence, civility, and commitment.  The 2015 class is the first to graduate from Barry Law School having met the professionalism requirement.

Dean Diaz said, “As with many of the academic requirements at Barry Law School, the Professionalism Enhancement Requirement was initiated to better prepare law students to utilize essential professionalism skills, both in law school and to eventually carry them over into the practice of law.”

The award was given at the Florida Bar’s Annual Convention in Boca Raton.   The purpose of the award is to recognize an organization that has an innovative program that can be implemented by other organizations to promote and encourage professionalism within the legal community.
