Fall Traditions

Barry Founders Week

Founders' Week commemorates Barry's history, mission, Catholic Identity and Dominican heritage. During this week we remember our founder's: Mother Mary Gerald Barry, Bishop Patrick Barry, Monsignor William Barry, John Thompson and the Adrian Dominican Sisters for whom Barry is a sponsored institution. We celebrate the pride we have in our university at this annual event.

Barry Community Fest

"Barry Community Fest" highlights Barry's history, heritage and the transformational nature of our university community, combining our traditional days of Barry Pride Day and Founders' Day. As we celebrate our rich Catholic Dominican heritage, we invite students, staff, faculty and the community at large for a fun and festive afternoon.

This is a day to dedicate to activities such as our traditional Cake Cutting Ceremony, special performances and guests and the infamous Team competitions that include Bed Races and our mall-size Musical Chairs!

University Block Party

Mission and Student Engagement presents this annual kick-off for all incoming and returning students. Included is the Student Involvement Fair, performances by student organizations, creative giveaways such as carica-tees, food and inflatable’s. The Student Involvement Fair features all of our recognized student organizations who can tell you what getting involved is all about.

Barry's Moonlight Madness

Moonlight Madness is your chance to join other fans and students and meet both the men's and women's basketball teams, while also enjoying a night of great food and fun filled entertainment. The fans enjoy great performances from Barry's cheerleading squad and dance team in addition to the flying acrobatics of the Miami Heat Xtreme Team.

GLO - The Official White Attire Party

Student Involvement Fair

This is the way to Get Involved! While academics will be a major focus of your college experience, a complete education cannot be limited to the walls of a classroom. The Student Organization Council (S.O.C.) sponsors this annual fair in or outside the Student Union where you’ll be able to meet the members of student organizations who can tell you what getting involved is all about!

Greek Week

Sponsored by Greek Life, Greek Week is a week filled with a variety of fun activities such as a lip sync contest, wacky Olympics, and a trivia bowl. There is something different to do every day of the week. Keep your eyes and ears open for the schedule of events! Don't miss this opportunity to meet the Greeks or become one yourself!

Homecoming is a weeklong celebration of traditional events, fun activities and competitions. Traditional Events include the Kick-Off BBQ, Barry Beauties, Golf Cart Parade, and Buc Fest Concert (past performers: Blessid Union of Souls, Fat Joe, Grind Mode, and Casley). Competitions between clubs and organizations, Residence Halls, and student organized teams also traditionally took place during the week with such favorites as Bucky Bird Watch, Residential Life Battle of the Halls Competition, Powder Puff Football. Rip the Runway Fashion Show, Spoken Word Event, Formal Dance, and the Greek Step Show are popular large scale events.

SGA Powder Puff Football

Traditionally a Student Government Association (SGA) sponsored event, Powder Puff Football takes place during BUC FEST week. Student groups are formed where the roles are reversed and the men in each group become the cheerleaders, while the women participate in "flag football". Last year the event took place in the Campus Mall area and student groups such as P.R.I.D.E and American Sign Language Association were involved.

This new event will be held at the Penafort Pool. Bring your friends and get ready to meet people. Enjoy the warm weather alongside free food, beverages and music. Get your bathing suit on and be ready to splash in the biggest pool party ever! For more information please contact the Office of Student Life, Landon Student Union 202.
