This information is being sent out as a courtesy. If you are graduating in Spring 2021, taking a sabbatical for the summer semester, or are otherwise not returning to Barry, please read this important notice.
Continuing coverage in the Student Health Insurance plan is available for students who are currently enrolled in the plan but are Graduating, taking a semester sabbatical, or are otherwise not returning to the University. Students can enroll for up to six months of coverage directly with UnitedHealthcare StudentResources under the Continuation of Coverage Option. The premium for the continuation of coverage is subject to the rate of premium for the policy year in which you are requesting the coverage. Policy year begins in Fall and ends in July. To be eligible for this benefit you must have at least 3 consecutive months of prior active coverage in the student insurance plan as a registered student through the University.
Conditions for requesting continuing coverage:
- Must have 3 consecutive months of prior coverage in the student insurance plan.
- Graduating/Otherwise not Returning at the end of the Spring semester:
You can continue your coverage for up to six months directly with UnitedHealthcare StudentResources- 3 months at the current policy rate and then the remaining available 3 months at the new policy rate. - Taking a semester off and need coverage until you return the following semester:
If you are not graduating but will have a gap in registration for a semester and need to maintain your Student Insurance coverage until you return the next semester, you may apply for continuing coverage with the Student Health Insurance Plan directly with UnitedHealthcare StudentResources. You should only apply for the number of months needed to cover the months you are not registered. If you return the next semester and register for at least 4 graduate credits or 9 undergraduate credits, you will be billed for the cost of insurance through the University and will receive an email notification when the OPT IN option is available.
To apply for the continuation of coverage you must log in to your My Account at www.uhcsr.com/barry and click on ACTION! to complete the process. You will be required to pay your premium at the time of application. Continuation of coverage is available 30 days before your current coverage will end and will remain available for 14 days after the end of the current semester policy end date. After the 14-day grace period, the continuation will no longer be available.
