Health panel discussion sheds light on health disparities

In an event co-sponsored by the Department of Biology, the Minority Association of Pre-health Students (MAPS) hosted a panel discussion on health disparities in observance of Minority Health Month.  Students and faculty joined panelists to discuss the underlying causes and potential solutions to the global and national challenges to eradicating health disparities. Topics included gaps in the quality of health and healthcare access across racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups.

The event brought together panelists from Barry, the University of Georgia-Athens, and the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine with wide-ranging areas of expertise – nursing, epidemiology, human genetics, and bioethics.

MAPS is a multicultural student organization with members from undergraduate (biology, chemistry, nursing) and graduate (BMS) programs at Barry. For more information about this organization, e-mail: BarryMAPS@gmail.com and/or visit: BarryMAPS.blogspot.com.
