MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—Elanna Brady’s goal in the 67th minute stood up for the Barry Buccaneers as they defeated the St. Thomas Bobcats 1-0 at Buccaneer Field Wednesday night.
The teams battled through a scoreless first half, though the Bucs (7-9-0) held a 6-1 edge in shots, including 5-0 on goal.
But the Bobcats’ starting keeper, Lea Jones, was injured in a collision with the Bucs’ Maya Ozery with about 11:00 minutes left in the first period. She finished the half, but was replaced for the second period by Maria Mora.
Despite a flurry of shots early in the period, the Bobcats (7-4-1) could not crack the goal. But in the 67th minute, St. Thomas was whistled for an offside. On the free kick, Emily Bourgoine found Brady at the top of the penalty box and Brady cut the ball inside the lifted a shot over Mora’s head for the game’s lone score.
The Bobcats continued to press and, near the end of the period, were poised to take a shot at tying it up when they were called for a hand ball just before the shot. Sandra Vargas lifted the shot anyway and it cleared the head of Kelly Tryson with no time left on the clock, though it was called back.
Bobcat head coach Michelle Smith was issued a red card after the game for her protests.
Jones (5) and Mora (3) combined for eight of the Bobcats’ nine saves on the night. Tryson had two stops for the Bucs.
Barry ends the season at home on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 4:30 against the Saint Leo Lions.
