Women's Tennis' Mansour, Matuszak Move on at Miami

CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Barry's Linda Fritschken and Isabela Miro will play for the Miami Invite Orange consolation finals after beating North Florida's Rebeca Pereira and Simona Weymar, 9-7, at the University of Miami Friday. Fritschken and Miro lost in the first round to Miami's No. 1 doubles team of Deborah Suarez and Melissa Bolivar, 8-5.

In singles play, Barry's Mona Mansour cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win over South Florida's Kate Parker in the Orange bracket. Mansour meets Miami's Deborah Suarez in Saturday's 10 a.m. quarterfinals. Miro lost her first-round Orange singles match to South Florida's Paula Montoya, 6-0, 6-3. Miro plays FGCU's Morgan Bechtel in the 10 a.m. consolation quarters.

In the Green singles bracket, Barry's Olivia Matuszak rallied to beat Miami's Stephanie Wagner, 1-6, 6-1, 6-4 to set up a 9 a.m. quarterfinal matchup against South Florida's Loreto Alonso Martinez.

Fritschken lost to Miami's Kelsey Laurente, 6-0, 6-2, in the Green singles first round. Fritschken will play Maryland's Vroni Van Berlo in Saturday's consolation quarterfinals.

Barry's Akemi Maehama and Laurente received a first-round bye before losing to North Florida's Lorena Aviles and Melanie Aguirre, 8-3, in the Green pairs bracket.

Maehama lost her first round Orange singles match to Dubins, 7-5, 6-1. Maehama plays Maryland's Sarah Gealer in Saturday's consolation quarters.

Barry's duo of Mansour and Matuszak lost their first-round Green pairs match to Dubins and Stracar, 8-1, and then fell to North Florida's Marina Cunningham and Taylor Hollander, 8-3, in the consolation bracket.
