MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers spotted the St. Thomas Bobcats a three-goal lead, but rallied for a 4-3 overtime win in men’s soccer on Friday afternoon at Buccaneer Field.

In the first half, St. Thomas (1-2-1) got a pair of goals from Stefan Peretz and one from Hebeir Sebastian to go into the intermission up 3-0.

But at the half, the Bucs (4-1-0) made a couple of key substitutions which fueled the drive to victory. Gio Cobielles replaced Devala Gorrick in goal, making the first appearance of his career and Henry Apaloo came on after missing the first half with a sore leg.

Apaloo quickly helped the Bucs break the ice, lofting a free kick to Julio Arnaiz who blasted in the goal off the hands of Bobcat keeper Diego Villagos at the 52:48 mark.

Less than two minutes later, another Apaloo free kick found Stephen Hume at the far post and he buried a shot to trim the lead to 3-2.

With less than two minutes remaining, Diego Lucio pushed a ball up the right wing and lifted a cross into the box. Marcus Reynolds flicked it over to Pedro Petris who got the equalizer with an 18-yard blast.

In the overtime, with the Bobcats playing a man down after Daniel De La Cruz had been sent off with two yellow cards, Apaloo found himself unmarked about 25 yards from the goal and ripped a shot into the top left corner of the goal for the game winner.

The Bucs held a 20-5 advantage in shots, but Villegos made eight saves to make the game closer than it appeared. In the 74th minute, STU’s Gabe Renteria had a breakaway opportunity, but Cobielles jumped out to the snuff the chance and record his only save.

The Bucs are back in action at Buccaneer Field on Sunday, Sept. 9 at 3:00 pm in a South Region match with the Alabama-Huntsville Chargers.
