MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers fell 3-1 to the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish in men’s soccer on Wednesday night.
The Sailfish (6-2) opened the scoring in the 20th minute. Cheyne Roberts lifted a corner kick into the box to his brother Caleb Roberts who headed it past Bucs’ keeper Devala Gorrick for a 1-0 lead which lasted to the intermission.
In the second half, the Bucs (5-4-1) came out firing and evened the match in the 53rd minute. Marcus Reynolds shot a ball up the left sideline and Ryan Alexander crossed it over into the penalty box where Henry Apaloo rammed it home to knot the game at 1-1.
But the Bucs defense broke down just three minutes later. Tommy Nodland attempted to pass the ball back to Gorrick, but failed to do it with enough pace and PBA’s Daniel Abrahamson stepped over to touch the ball away and score into the empty net.
Things then went from bad to worse when Stephen Hume was whistled for his second yellow card and ejected in the 68th minute, then three minutes later Nenad Savic was called for a cleats-up tackle and sent off, leaving the Bucs down two men.
The Sailfish took advantage of the edge in the 81st minute. With the Bucs pushed up to try for the equalizer, Abrahamson raced up the left sideline and fed the bal to Jonathan Clarke who scored to the far post.
Gorrick had three saves for the Bucs in taking the loss, while Joseph Yurchak made three for the Sailfish to earn the win.
The Bucs host the Eckerd Tritons on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 4:30 pm in their next outing.
