Women's Basketball Uses Strong Second half to Defeat Clayton State
Senior Princess Bailey tallied 11 of her 13 points in the second half.

Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. - The Barry women's basketball team found their legs in the second half as they expanded a four-point halftime lead to 11 to win going away late, 61-50, Friday night against Clayton State in the season opener for both teams at the NSU-Marriott Tip-Off Classic.

The Bucs kept the pressure on Clayton State the entire first half, as they generated 22 free throw attempts (made 10) and were in the bonus before the halfway point of the first half.

Barry looked to have the game going their way with a little over five minutes left in the first half following a three-pointer by freshman Shanna Suttington to give the Bucs their biggest lead of the half at nine.

An 8-3 run for the Lakers helped close the gap to four at the break.

Senior Princess Bailey and junior Alisha Sanford carried Barry in the second half, as the two combined for 20 points, with Bailey tallying eleven.

With nine minutes left in the second half and the game tied at 41, Barry shut down the Lakers and began to put the game out of reach.

A Sanford jumper, capped off by an offensive put back by senior Christina Thompson gave the Bucs a lead they wouldn't relinquish at 46-41.

Bailey led the way offensively for the Bucs, as she scored 13 points. Mariesa Greene just missed a double-double, finishing with 11 rebounds and eight points.

Barry will play St. Augustine’s Sunday beginning at 4 p.m. to conclude the NSU-Marriott Classic.
