Cold Spell Costs Men's Basketball Against #20 Tigers

MEMPHIS, Tenn.—The 20th-ranked Ouachita Baptist Tigers used a 16-2 run to start the second half and went on to beat the Barry Buccaneers 65-45 at Canale Arena on the campus of Christian Brothers University on Sunday afternoon.

The Buccaneers (3-4) got off to a good start, leading 16-7 at the 12:30 mark of the first half. They still led 19-16 with 7:58 remaining, but they went scoreless over the next four minutes as the Tigers (9-1) ran off 10 straight points to take a 26-19 lead. The Bucs re-grouped to trail just 28-25 at the break.

But after a Bryan Chiverton runner in the lane at 19:31 of the period, the Bucs did not score for seven minutes as the Tigers built a 44-27 margin. OBU extended the lead to as many as 26 before settling for the 20-point win.

Willie Whitfield led the Bucs with 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Karega Tucker added 12 points. Rowan Ledbetter paced four Tigers in double figures with 19 points, while Jaranimo Marks had 13, Ed Keyes 12 and Daniel Maddox 11.

The Bucs return to Florida to face the Flagler Saints on Tuesday, Dec. 16 then go to Boca Raton, Fla., for the Pepsi/DoubleTree Suites Holiday Classic at Lynn University.
