MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – After the Pace Setters set the pace in the first inning, the Barry University baseball team took control the rest of the way, winning the game 12-6 Friday night at Feinbloom Field.

With the Setters (4-5-1) tallying a run after a leadoff triple in the first, the Bucs (17-2) didn’t let Pace enjoy the lead long.

Batting in their half of the first frame, Barry quickly answered with a Yan Gomes RBI single and a Yas Gutierrez RBI double to take the lead for good.

A Yudelmis Hernandez three-run home run in the third inning boosted the Bucs lead to 6-1.

But Pace began to rally, tallying a run in the fourth, then four more combined in the sixth and seventh innings to trim the lead down to one at 7-6.

Taking advantage of a few Setters’ errors, the Bucs plated three in the seventh inning, as Chris Leon, Nick Shaw and Gomes all came through with RBI hits to help put the game out of reach.

Gomes and Hernandez paced the Bucs with 3 RBI a piece, while Bobby Hernandez benefited on the mound, recording his third win, going five innings and allowing two earned runs.

Barry will continue their four-game series with Pace on Saturday as the teams will play a doubleheader beginning at noon.
