Men's Tennis Earns Spot in SSC Championship

BOCA RATON, Fla.— The #3 ranked Barry University men’s tennis team earned a spot in the SSC Championship on Saturday after by blanking Florida Southern 5-0 on Friday afternoon.
 
In doubles action, the Bucs took all three points with relative ease. In doubles one, Max Wimmer and Emanuel Fraitzl handled Roman Schirmaier and Guenther Fercher 8-4. In doubles number two, Andrew Sharnov and Ales Svigelj beat C.J. Johnson and Brian deMontfort 8-3. In the third doubles match, Jakub Fejfar and Sergio Velez beat Greg Heartt and Ben Taylor 8-5.
 
Up 3-0, the Bucs needed only two points to win the match. Those points came from Wimmer and Werschel in the four and five spots respectively. Wimmer beat Taylor 6-2, 6-2, while Werschel defeated Johnson 7-5, 6-2. The Bucs were ahead in three of the four remaining matches prior to earning the five points needed to win the match.
 
With the win, the Bucs will square off against Lynn in the SSC Championship tomorrow morning at 11:30 am. The Knights, ranked #2 nationally, slipped past the Bucs in regular season play, winning 5-4.
