JUPITER, Fla. – The No. 1 ranked Barry University baseball team survived another tough battle from Palm Beach Atlantic, defeating the Sailfish, 6-5, Tuesday night at the Roger Dean Sports Complex in Jupiter.

Barry (42-7) had to battle back from an early 4-1 deficit through the first three innings, but the Bucs got things going in the fourth.
Yas Gutierrez began the inning with a walk, then stole second. Yudelmis Hernandez followed with a walk and after Chris Leon laid down a perfect bunt single, the Bucs were in business with the bases loaded a no outs.

Following a strikeout, Manny Pedrozo roped a shot to third that wasn’t handled and on the error two runs scored to trim the lead to one at 4-3.

Barry tallied a run each in the fifth and sixth to regain the lead at 5-4, but the Sailfish (7-34) refused to go away, as they tallied a run in the bottom of the sixth on a Stephen Fowler RBI single to tie the game back up at five.

Pedrozo came through with a big leadoff double in the eighth, as Mitch Rodriguez eventually drove home Drew Dwelly who pinch-ran for Pedrozo to score the go-ahead run.

Danny Lima also delivered an RBI single in the sixth for his 86 hit of the season which broke Alain Diaz’s old mark of 85 set back in 1995.

Josh Holmes (1-0) pitched a solid 1.1 innings out of the bullpen to record the save and Bobby Hernandez struckout the side in the ninth for his fourth save.

The Bucs will be back in action Wednesday when they play at St. Thomas beginning at 6 p.m.
