MIAMI SHORES, Fla.— The Barry University volleyball team took a quick three-set (25-8, 25-22, 25-16) victory over Florida Tech on Saturday afternoon. The win was the Bucs’ fourth straight SSC victory in a row.
In set one, the Bucs (15-10, 6-8 SSC) got out to a 4-0 start, and pushed the lead to 8-1. The Panthers (14-18, 2-12 SSC) went on a small run, getting within three at 10-7 before the Bucs went on a 4-0 run to go up 14-8. After a Spenser Rigg service error, the Bucs wrapped up the game on an 11-0 run, winning 25-8. Ady Alcantara had a pair of kills in the run.
In set two, the Panthers got out to quick leads of 8-5 and 13-9. The Bucs fought back to tie it at 15-15 with the help of kills by Stefanie Svieven and Julie Priester, and a pair of aces by Melina Bukinac. The game was back-and-forth through 19-19. The Bucs took the next three points to go up 22-19, and maintained the three point lead through 25-22.
In set three, the Bucs had a strong offensive attack, combining for 16 total kills. After a slow start, the Bucs pushed out to a 14-9 lead. The Panthers would only earn seven more points in the set compared to the Bucs’ nine as Barry won the set 25-16. Alcantara had four kills in the set while Julia Teixiera, Priester, and Svieven had three apiece.
For the Bucs, Alcantara had 13 kills while Teixiera had 10. Julie Priester had 31 assists. Ferreira shared her part of five blocks, while Rigg had 19 digs.
The Bucs return to action on Friday, Nov. 13 at Eckerd at 7:00 pm.
