Softball Drops Twinbill to Chargers
MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers dropped a softball doubleheader 2-1 and 8-6 to the Hillsdale Chargers with both games going to the international tie-breaker in extra innings.

In the first game, Hillsdale (5-1) got on the board first in the sixth inning when Miriam McKay scored on an error. The Bucs (19-12) even the game in the bottom of the inning as Kayla Monroy delivered the two-out RBI single to score pinch runner Julia Chongarlides.

But in the eighth, the Chargers pushed across the game-winner when pitcher Laura Homan (3-0) drew a two-out, bases-loaded walk from Barry hurler Paula Mackin (10-5) to force in Jennifer Berlet who had singled with one out.

Mackin took the loss, going the distance and allowing just the one run on three hits and five walks while striking out nine. Homan picked up the win, scattering nine hits and allowing just one unearned run with two strikeouts.

In the second game, the Bucs built a 3-0 lead in the first three innings, scoring single runs in each. The Bucs scored on a wild pitch in the first, a squeeze bunt in the second and a passed ball in the third.

After the Chargers cut the lead to 3-1 in the fourth, the Bucs plated two more runs in the bottom of the frame on a pair of Hillsdale errors.

But in the sixth, the Chargers scored four times with all four runs charged against Barry starter Jessica Bevlin. Teresa Patterson drew a bases loaded walk then, after a run scored on an error, pinch hitter Kellie Hirst ripped a two-run single to center field.

The Bucs tied the game up in the bottom of the inning. Stephany Soto drew a walk, stole second and went to third on a wild pitch, then scored on a ground out by Sara Hipson.

In the eighth inning, with the tie-breaker runner aboard, Kate Hoop ripped a triple to rightfield and Hirst followed with an RBI double to center to account for the two runs.

Mackin took the loss for the second time, allowing one run on four hits and two walks in 2.1 innings. Taylor Schulty (2-0) earned the win with eight innings work. She allowed six runs (four earned) on eight hits and four walks and struck out one.
