MIAMISHORES, Fla.—The Barry University men’s soccer erased an early 1-0 deficit as they came from behind to defeat the Sharks from Nova Southeastern by a final of 3-2 at Buccaneer Field on Saturday night.
The Bucs unfortunately have seen themselves down a few times throughout the season but have seemingly found a way to prevail. The Sharks jumped out to the early lead when Phillip Klaus was able to breach the Buccaneer defense just 12 minutes into the contest for his first goal of the season. The Bucs kept putting on the pressure as they out-shot Nova 9-4 in the first half but it wasn’t until the 28 minute mark when senior Joe Conkleton was able to connect on a long pass with sophomore Joong Kim to level the score at 1-1 on Kim’s first goal of the season.
The teams would go into the half tied and the game would remain that way for the early part of the second half until Klaus struck again. Klaus connected on a shot from just outside of the 18-yard box to give the Sharks the 2-1 advantage but the Buccaneer’s continued fight.
Trailing 2-1 and under six minutes to play Mark Anderson lined up a free kick from 20 yards away and placed it on the top left corner for his 11th goal on the young season. Anderson’s goal matches his goal total from a year ago and gives him 11 of Barry’s 15 goals in just six games.
With just 0:45 seconds left in regulation, freshman forward Connor Randel connected for his first career goal at the most opportune time to lift Barry to their sixth straight victory and a win in their first conference match of the year. Conkleton again made the service to earn his second assist.
The Buccaneers will play host to St. Thomas on Wednesday, Sep. 21st before continuing SSC play when they travel to #2 Rollins next Saturday. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm at Buccaneer Field with live-stat and audio broadcast available through the Barry University athletic website, GOBARRYBUCS.COM.
