MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers, who climbed two spots to 13 in the NFCA national poll this week, posted a doubleheader sweep, 3-2 and 6-3, of the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish at Buccaneer Field in Wednesday night softball action.

In game one, Alyssa Goldsmith knocked in Sarah Broeseker with a base hit in the fifth inning to break a 2-2 deadlock and lead the Bucs (16-3) to victory. She also added an RBI double in the third inning.

Brianna Smith (7-2) made the runs stand up, holding the Sailfish to five hits in seven innings and striking out five. Mary Pippin (8-6) was tagged with the loss, despite not allowing an earned run. She allowed six hits and a walk and struck out three.

In game two, the Bucs built a 4-0 lead after four innings, but the Sailfish (13-10) battled back to cut it to one, 4-3, in the fifth on a squeeze bunt and a two-run single by Camille Benito.

But Barry calmly put up single runs in the fifth and sixth and Alexis Yohe (6-1) shut the Sailfish down the rest of the way. Julie Brito squeezed in Goldsmith in the fifth and Kelly Martinez rounded on an error by PBA second baseman Lisa Santos in the sixth.

Yohe, who went the distance, allowed eight hits and three walks and struck out five. Lauren Bubeck (3-3) took the loss for the ‘Fish. In six innings, she allowed eight hits, walked two and struck out one.

The Bucs struck first in the third inning. Martinez drew a lead-off walk and was bunted to second. Natalia Ojeda singled down the left field line to put runners on the corners. Both moved up on a wild pitch by Bubeck and Goldsmith knocked in Ojeda with a single.

In the fourth inning, Brito singled to lead off, went to second on a ground out and third on another wild pitch by Bubeck. Kayla Monroy singled to knock in Brito and came around on a single by Ojeda to make it 4-0.

The Bucs, currently ranked 13th in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll, will face top-ranked Alabama-Huntsville in Winter Park, Fla., on Saturday, Mar. 3 in a South Region Crossover matchup at Rollins’ Lake Island Park.
