Women's Golf Takes 4th at Florida Blue SSC Championships

BRADENTON, Fla. -- Barry University women's golf team placed fourth at the Florida Blue Sunshine State Conference Championships Tuesday.

The No. 6-ranked Buccaneers moved up a spot in the final round at The Concession Golf Club, closing the three-round league tournament with a 330 to finish at 982. Nova Southeastern shot 311 in the final round to win the championship with a 945, finishing one stroke better than second-place Lynn on the 5,909-yard, par-72 course.

Florida Southern took third at 954.

Nova's Lilliana Camisa won the individual title after shooting 12-over 228. She had a 2-over 74 in the final round. Teammate Daniella Ortiz was second at 15-over 231. Lynn's Samantha Smolen finished third at 233.

Barry freshman Paola Grande finished 12th at 240. She placed sixth at the Barry Tri-Match in the last event. Buccaneers teammate Taylor Babcock finished 17th with a three-day score of 246.

Daniela Murray finished in a four-way tie for 18th at 247. Nancy Vergara was 22nd at 249 after carding a final-round 4-over 76 to close the tournament. Lizzi Over shot 279 to place 34th.

Vergara eagled the 492-yard, par-5 17th Tuesday. She also had two birdies in her closing round. Babcock birdied two holes Tuesday, and finished with eight in the tournament. Murray had three birdies to cap her final-round back nine at 1-under. Grande had six birdies over the three rounds.

Barry will play in the NCAA Division II Regional at Stonebrook Golf Club in Pace, Fla., May 6-8.
