MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Barry University men’s soccer team dropped a home match against the University of Tampa Spartans Wednesday night, 3-0.
The Bucs (3-6-0, 0-4-0 SSC) have dropped their last two contest after collecting a pair of wins outside of conference play, going 2-2 in their last four games. The Spartans and Bucs faced off earlier this season with Barry coming away with the 1-0 victory.
Unfortunately, on this night the ball rolled the Spartans’ way as they were able to avenge the defeat from just two weeks ago.
Tampa (6-3-1, 3-1-0 SSC) jumped ahead in the 11th minute on Tyler Blackwood’s sixth goal of the season.
In the second half the Spartans snuck another goal past Buccaneer goalkeeper Edwin Jean off the foot of Joshua Freese for the game’s second goal. Roughly sixteen minutes later it was Blackwood, the Spartans leading scorer, who put the game out of reach with his second goal of the night.
The Bucs applied pressure on Tampa goalkeeper David Niepel, but were not able to break through, finishing the match with 14 total shots.
Barry will look to rebound on Saturday when they host the Tars of Rollins College at Buccaneer Field. Live-stat and video coverage will be available through the Barry University athletics website, GOBARRYBUCS.COM.
