DADE CITY, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers made a strong statement on day two of the NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Super Region 2 Tournament at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club on Monday, firing a 295 to move into second place.

The Bucs and Florida Tech swapped places in round two, as Barry’s seven-over 295 tied Rollins for the second-best round of the tournament so far. The Lynn Knights, who led after the first round, solidified their hold with a second-round 291.

Following Lynn (+12), Barry (+23) and Florida Tech (+31), Rollins (+32), who also carded a 295 on the second round, and Saint Leo (+44), round out the top five.

Barry’s Nancy Vergara fired an even par 72 today, and sits in a logjam tied for second at three-over-par, behind the tournament lead Ellen Chambers of Lynn. Chamber shot a 69 today, to go along with a 72 from round one, and is three-under for the tournament. Along with Vergara, Daisy-Mae Kenny of West Florida, the first-round leader, Marie Coors of host Saint Leo and Lynn’s Louise Manalo are all six strokes back at three over par.

Freshman Martina Bertuccioli shot 73 today and is tied for ninth with teammate Nicky Ferre who carded a 74. Maria Paolo Fiorio, 76, and Daniela Murray, 79, made up the rest of the Buccaneer field.

The tournament concludes on Tuesday with one final round. The top three teams, along with the top three individuals not with a team, advance to the national championships held May 14-17, at Rock Barn Golf & Spa in Conover, N.C.
