FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Barry University's Emma Onila and Linda Fritschken defeated BYU-Hawaii's Marika Kobsyashi and Marietta Tuioneta, 6-2, 6-2 Friday to win the ITA Small College doubles National Championship.
In the semifinals, Barry's pair beat No. 1 seed Lewis' Zsofia Krancziki and Zsofia Lanstiak, 6-1, 6-4.
"They have played great tennis through the weekend," Bucs assistant coach Maria Lopez said. "They are staying aggressive and complementing each other."
Onila and Fritschken will play in the Super Bowl Tournament Saturday.
At the Miami Invite, hosted by the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Barry's Karina Goia defeated Auburn's Jen Pfeifler, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. Cristina Valladares defeated Purdue's Krisztina Kapitany, 6-2, 6-2. Akemi Maehama was a 6-3, 7-6 winner over Iris Verboven of Ole Miss.
Kimmy Twelker lost to Purdue's Maria Schmidt, 6-1, 6-2. Elisabeth Abanda lost to Ole Miss' Mai El Kamash, 6-3, 6-2. Maria Reis lost to Auburn's Jackie Kasler, 6-1, 6-4.
In doubles, Abanda and Twelker beat Schmidt and Kapitany in an 8-2 walkover.
Isabela Miro and Goia lost to Auburn's Allie Robbins and El Kamash, 8-2. Maehama and Valladares fell to Miami's Melissa Bolivar and Kelsey Laurente, 8-2.
Abanda and Twelker lost to Miami's Monique Albuquerque and Clementina Riobueno, 8-3.
Miro and Goia defaulted to Miami's Deborah Suarez and Lina Lileikite. Maehama and Valladares fell to Purdue's Andjela Djokovic and Natalia Davila, 8-5.
