Library Elevator Out of Service

Library Elevator Out of Service

Dear University Community:

As a part of our Preventive Maintenance program for our campus elevators, to ensure that all of the elevators run smoothly and safely, Otis Elevator technicians perform regularly scheduled inspections of the elevators. During the most recent one, the technician found that the hoist ropes were in poor condition on the elevator. These ropes are a critical part of the elevator’s operational system and need to be in good shape to ensure the safe operation of the elevator. Since the ropes were not up to proper standards, the technician put the elevator out of service until such time as repairs can be performed.

The parts are not locally available. They have been ordered. However, they will take around 5 business days to arrive. Then, the repair itself will take 3-5 days to complete. In practical terms, this means that the elevator will be out of service for approximately 2 weeks.

I am sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause the patrons of the Library. However, we always have to be mindful of Safety concerns.

Thanks,
