Reflections of a Former Student

Being in the MARC-U*STAR Program has benefited me in numerous ways. I had considerable experience of what a graduate-level research life would be. During my junior year, the professors prepared me for an intense summer internship at the California Institute of Technology. My time management, report writing, and research skills were sharpened by the requirements of the program and internship. I enjoyed presenting my work to others and receiving positive feedback. These experiences have, not only, improved my research skills, but they also prove to be rewarding. I am experiencing new levels of leadership and responsibility at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, my current graduate institution (PhD Mathematics).

Overall, my research experiences were beneficial. I was able to see how theoretical and experimental methods lead to solutions of practical problems. I desire to have many more of these productive experiences. I have further confirmed that mathematical research and teaching is the pathway that I will follow.
