History of the MARC Program

Sr. John Karen Frei, MARC/ MBRS SCORE/ MIRT Program Director, gave a history of the minority research grants and their accomplishments since 1993. These grants have trained 222 biology, chemistry, mathematics and psychology students. Of the MARC graduates 67% are in or have completed Ph.D. programs; thus meeting the goal of the program to make minority students more competitive for Ph.D. programs. Sr. John then presented awards to Sr. Jeanne O-Laughlin, Dr. J. Patrick Lee, Dr. Derrick Tabor, Mr. Marc Horowitz and Dr. Flona Redway for their service to the Barry Program over the years. Sr. John received an award for her vision and lifelong dedication to minority education at Barry University.
