- Spring 2008 Many of our past MARC scholars returned to Barry in October 2007 to support our MARC program up for renewal which was being site visited. Although the visit was official it gave the students and faculty a great opportunity to reminisce and catch up on their accomplishments. Dr. Lenore P. Rodicio, (MARC ‘94) was appointed chairperson of the Natural and Social Sciences Department of the InterAmerican campus of Miami Dade College, January 2008. She oversees all courses on campus related to the biological and physical sciences, as well as the social and behavioral sciences and student life skills courses. Ileana Pazo (MARC/RISE ’07) received the Post baccalaureate Intramural Research Training Award (IRTA) at The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) at The National Institutes of Health (NIH). She began January 2008. Lynnsay Marsan (MARC ’07) received the Post baccalaureate Intramural Research Training Award (IRTA) at the National Institute on Drug Abuse at the National Institute of Health; she began January 2008. Ana Marie Landin (MARC ‘97) is now enrolled in the PhD Physiology Program at the University College Cork, Ireland. Davecia Ragoonath (MARC/MIRT ’02) is working as a content editor for The Institute for Medical Education & Research, Inc. (IMER) a leading provider of continuing education for physicians, nurses, and other health professionals who specialize in oncology. Davecia’s husband, Matthew Cameron is the new Director of Residential Life and Housing at Barry. Dr. Lisan Parker (MARC/MIRT ‘98) is now a Senior Research Biologist in the Neuroscience Drug Discovery group at Merck Research Laboratories in Boston, MA. Dr. Efrain Garcia (MARC ’00) was an organizer of the first "Infectious and Brain Disease Burden" conference and workshop in Lusaka, Zambia. He is currently applying for a AAAS fellowship in Diplomacy or Health, Education, and Human Services. Paula Jenkins (MIRT ‘05) has just been accepted to Howard University School of Medicine for Fall 2008. Raul Alexander Mirza (MIRT ‘04 ) is completing his third year of medical school at the Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, Virginia at Virginia Tech. His research received second place at the Annual Clinical Assembly for Osteopathic Specialists, San Francisco, CA October 18-20, 2007. He serves on the National Board for the Student Osteopathic Medical Association in the capacity of National Director of Minority Affairs and as president for the local chapter. He also serves as ambassador for the school. Elisabeth Honorat (MARC ‘01) completed the requirements towards the MS Microbiology, and MPH Epidemiology, Emory University, August 2007. Currently she is a Public Health Prevention Service (PHPS) Fellow in the Center for Disease Control and Prevention Robinson Gaviria (MIRT ‘99) is now with the Miami-Dade County Public Schools as an environmental program manager for issues specific to indoor air quality such as asbestos, mold, and lead. He is accredited in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design from the U.S. Green Building Council and International and State Building Code licenses. Joel Rodriguez (MARC ‘99) is an associate at Booz, Allen & Hamilton, Virginia.
