BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Barry University women’s basketball team (16-7, 7-5 SSC) rebounded from a one-point conference loss over the week to defeat the Lynn Fighting Knights (16-7, 7-5 SSC) 80-66 on Wednesday night in Sunshine State Conference action at the de Hoernle Center.

Christina Thompson paced the Buccaneers by setting a Barry record for three-pointers made in a single season. In the first half alone, Thompson hit 3-of-3 attempts including a buzzer beater that set the single-season record at 58. She added one more trey and eight points in the second half to finish with a game-high 26 points and a record 59 three-point field goals made in a single-season.

Lynn started the second half by trimming the Buccaneer lead to 42-39 on a three pointer by point guard Jade Williams at the 16:05 mark. However, that was as close as Lynn managed to get the rest of the game. Barry outscored the Knights 44-36 in the second half including a 38-27 run to close out the contest for the win.

Thompson’s 26 points led all scorers and she added seven rebounds, while Lucy Martinez followed with 16 points. Princess Bailey scored all 12 of her points in the second half, but added 11 rebounds to finish with a double-double. She also added six assists, two blocks and two steals. Alisha Sanford added 11 points off the bench

In the first half, Thompson scored 13 of the Bucs’ first 17 points of the game including two treys to give Barry a 17-9 lead with 11:26 to play before the break. The Knights chipped at the Buccaneer led until Crystal Perry converted a three-point play on a made free throw at the 2:42 mark to tie the game, 28-28. However, the Bucs outscored Lynn 8-2 in the final two minutes, including Thompson’s record-breaking three-pointer at the buzzer, to take a 36-30 lead at the half.

Lynn’s Natalie Basore and Jade Williams led the Knights with 15 points apiece, while Cara Dolci came off the bench to contribute 13. Crystal Ahmed recorded the only double-double for Lynn finishing with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while added eight assists and four steals.

The Buccaneers will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 16 hosting the Tampa Spartans at 2 pm for homecoming at the Health & Sports Center.
