DAVIE, Fla.—Another strong second half propelled the Barry Buccaneers to a 65-51 win over the St. Augustine Falcons in the NSU Marriott Women’s Basketball Tipoff Classic at the University Center on Sunday.

The Bucs (2-0) led by three at the break, but out-scored the Falcons 34-23 in the second half to come away with the tournament championship.

Barry led 44-40 with 9:12 left to play after SAC’s Keyona Bryant’s three-point play. But Lucy Martinez keyed a 13-2 Barry run over the next four minutes that put the Bucs up 57-42 at Kristy Singeltary’s long-range three-pointer and the Falcons (1-1) never got closer than 12 points the rest of the way.

A fast-break layup by Princess Bailey gave the Bucs their biggest advantage, 63-45, with 3:45 left to play.

Bailey led all scorers with16 points, including 11 in the second half, while Martinez scored 13 of her 14 points in the period. Mariesa Greene just missed a double-double for the second night in a row with nine points and 10 rebounds. Allison Sikes led the Falcons with nine points off the bench.

Bailey was named the tournament’s co-MVP along with NSU’s Stephanie Sarosi while Greene was also named to the squad. SAC’s Bryant and Claytons State’s Tanisha Woodard rounded out the group.

The Bucs travel to West Palm Beach, Fla., on Friday, Nov. 21 to face the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish. Tip-off is set for 7:00 pm.
