MIAMI SHORES, Fla.— The Barry University women’s basketball team stayed with the #2 ranked Washburn Lady Blues into the second half, but eventually lost 67-54 in the Health and Sports Center on Thursday night.

The teams were evenly matched as the Buccaneers came out shooting well. The Bucs (8-2) led through the first eleven minutes, going up 14-10 off of a Lucy Martinez layup with 10:48 left. The Lady Blues (9-0) earned their first lead with 7:25 left in the first when Janice Bright hit a three-pointer to go up 15-18.

The Bucs went four for 11 from the field and two of six from the line in the last seven minutes of the first to go into halftime down 25-28.

In the second half, Washburn pushed their lead to eight, 31-39, going five of five from the floor including a three-pointer by Kalee Silovsky to open the half.

Two free-throws and a three-pointer by Princess Bailey put Barry within four with 15:02 remaining in the half, but this is close as the Bucs would get.

The Lady Blues put the game out of reach thanks to a Karla Tailele three-pointer a minute later.
For the Buccaneers, Bailey led the team with 19 while Martinez added 17 and Mariesa Greene tallied 14 points and eight boards.

The Buccaneers return to action on Tuesday, December 30 against Flagler at the Health and Sports Center at 6 pm.
