GAME TWO

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.— In strange fashion, the Barry University women’s softball team earned their fourth victory of the season on Sunday, beating Columbus State 3-2.

The Buccaneers (4-1) got on the board in the first inning as Shyla Rider was walked to first. Rider stole second and third and crossed the plate when Amanda Goelz hit a single to right field.

The Cougars (1-5) earned two runs in the fourth inning to take the lead.

The Bucs didn’t score again until the bottom of the fifth when a series of calls put Grace Collins on first base with a walk. The next hitter, Brittany Anderson was hit by a pitch moving Collins to second. Next Rider earned a single to load the bases.

Brianna Smith hit a single to bring in the tying run in Collins. With the bases loaded, Amber Jack was walked, and Anderson crossed the plate to put the Bucs ahead, 3-2.

Brianna Smith started for the Buccaneers, but was relieved by Jack who is credited with the win, moving to 3-1 on the season. The

Buccaneers return to action on Friday, Feb. 13 against Alabama-Huntsville in Pensacola at 4:30 pm.

GAME ONE

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry University softball team earned their third victory of the season on Sunday, beating UNC-Pembroke 2-1 at Buccaneer Field.

The Braves (0-5) scored first in the third inning when Carissa Dancer reached first base on a single to shortstop. Dancer made it around to third and scored when Paige Faircloth blasted a single to right field.

The Braves’ defense held as the Bucs (3-1) went through five innings before scoring two in the sixth. Amanda Goelz earned a single and Jessica Tabor was walked to put the go-ahead run on first. Amber Durkin hit a single to bring in Julia Chongarlides, who was pinch running for Goelz. Next Jenny Cuevas laid down a sacrifice bunt to bring in Tabor.

The Bucs held the Braves scoreless in the seventh for the win.

Amber Jack picked up the win, her second for the season, moving her to 2-1.
