MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – It didn’t take long for the Barry baseball team to light up the scoreboard Tuesday night.
Barry pounded St. Thomas, 17-2, with four Bucs hitting homers.
Joel Keefe got the offense started in the first, as he drilled a two-run double to center field for the first runs of the game.
After St. Thomas (1-5) tallied their only two runs of the game in the bottom of the first, Barry (2-1) went back to work.
Yas Gutierrez led-off the second with a monstrous drive to right-center for a solo home run.
Danny Lima then put the biggest shot of the night up in the third.
After three runs had already scored in the inning, the bases were loaded for Lima.
Lima waited for his pitch and then hit a line drive out to deep left field that just stayed fair as the ball hooked near the foul pole for a grand slam and a 10-2 commanding lead for the Bucs.
The Bucs would hit back-to-back shots in the fifth.
After Lima reached on an error at first, Yan Gomes muscled a two-run homer over the left field wall. Manny Pedrozo wasn’t to be outdone, as he followed with a homer again to left field to expand the lead to 15-2.
Lima powered the offense all night long, as he went 3-for-6, with a HR, 5 RBI and two runs scored. Gutierrez, Gomes and Keefe all recorded two RBI on the night.
Brad McAllister pitched four solid innings to record the victory, as five other Bucs came out of the bullpen to pitch five scoreless innings of relief.
Barry will hit the road again as they will play at Newberry, S.C., this Friday against Newberry with first-pitch set for 7 p.m. The Bucs will also play a doubleheader on Saturday against Newberry, before completing the road swing with a game against Belmont Abbey on Sunday.
