MIAMI—The Barry Buccaneers ran their women’s basketball exhibition record to 2-0 with an 88-61 thrashing of the Miami-Dade Sharks at the Gibson Center Monday night.
The Sharks stayed with the Bucs in the first half by knocking down five three-pointers, but missed on all 13 attempts from beyond the arc in the second half while the Bucs shot five-of-nine.
Mariesa Greene had another outstanding game, leading all scorers with 28 points. Yvonne Houston came off the bench with 11 points. Dominque Collier led the Sharks with 17 points, while Whitney Eddy had 12 and Tori Stephens added 10.
The Bucs led 44-36 at the half, but the Sharks trimmed the lead in the first four minutes of the second period to five points, 49-44 on a pair of free throws by Collier.
But Barry responded with a 17-2 run over the four and a half minutes to take a 66-46 lead on a jumper by Houston with 11:30 to play. The Sharks never got closer than 17 points the rest of the way. The Bucs’ biggest lead was the final.
Barry finishes its pre-season schedule with a 7:00 tip-off on Saturday, Nov. 7 at the Miami Hurricanes in the BankUnited Center.
