BOCA RATON, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers were torched by the Valdosta State Blazers 70-62 in the DoubleTree Guest Suites Holiday Classic at Lynn University’s deHoernle Center on Monday.

The Bucs (8-3), who trailed by six at the half and by as many as 11 in the second half, cut the lead to two, 57-55, on a pair of free throws by Tony Dennison with 5:56 left to play. The Blazers (11-2) pushed the lead back to six, but an Erick Nsangou three-pointer trimmed it back to three 62-59 with 3:43 remaining.

But the Bucs went cold and did not score again until Zack Trapp hit a trey as the buzzer sounded. The Blazers went six-for-six from the free throw line over the final three minutes.

Dennison led the Bucs with 18 points, while Nsangou had 16 and Trapp 14. Tristan Crawford led the Blazers with 22.

VSU exploited its huge size advantage to out-rebound the Bucs 55-34, leading to 13 more shots for the Blazers.

The Bucs are off until after Christmas, returning to the court on Jan. 2 in St. Petersburg, Fla., against the Eckerd Tritons with tip-off set for 4:00 pm.
