BOCA RATON, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers out-jousted the Lynn Knights Wednesday night in the deHoernle Center, 63-59, in Sunshine State Conference women’s basketball action.
The Bucs’ Adrienne Hicks and Mariesa Greene reversed a 42-40 deficit with 8:20 remaining by going on a 9-2 run over the next 2:01 to put Barry (12-4, 4-2 SSC) up 49-44 with 6:19 left on Hicks’ three-pointer. Hicks accounted for seven points in the run.
The Knights (10-6, 2-4 SSC) got as close as two points, 58-56, with 0:57 seconds left to play, on Quanisha Dixon’s put-back. But Shanna Suttington nailed five of six from the line in the last minute to preserve the win for the Bucs.
Barry led the entire first half until Madeleine Doyle hit a layup for the Knights with 0:48 seconds left in the half and Lynn carries a 22-21 lead into the locker room.
The Knights got out to a three-point lead out of the break and led by as many as five, before the Bucs mounted their comeback.
Greene led all players with 26 points and 10 rebounds while both Christina Thompson and Hicks added nine points for the Bucs. Doyle led the Knights with 16 points and Dixon added 12.
The Bucs travel to Tampa, Fla., on Saturday, Jan. 23 to take on the league-leading Spartans with tip off set for 2:00 pm. Pregame coverage starts at 1:50 pm on the Buccaneer Broadcasting Network.
