RUSSELLVILLE, Ark.—Despite a 54 percent shooting night from the Rollins College Tars, the Barry men’s basketball team fell to the Tars 74-71 on a three-pointer at the buzzer on Sunday in the Semifinals of the NCAA DII Regional Tournament.
Tony Dennison poured in 22, collected six rebounds, and added four assists. Erick Nsangou put in 12 with three rebounds. Also with 12 was Marvin Davis. Davis tallied four rebounds and one steal as well.
In a back-and-fourth game with seven ties and 13 lead changes, the Buccaneers took a three point lead with 01:42 after senior Bryan Chiverton nailed a 17-foot jumper as the shot clock expired.
The Buccaneers took a one point lead at 69-68 with 00:29 seconds to play on a Nsangou three-point play. Barry then fouled Rollins forward Matt Robertson with 00:22 seconds to play. Robertson converted on the first attempt then missed the second. There for the offensive board was Tars’ Nick Wolf. Wolf was then fouled and made both free-throws to make it a two point Rollins lead at 71-69 with 00:19 to play.
The Buccaneers then fed Davis on the right block for a layup and a foul with 00:09 to play. Davis missed the following free-throw and Rollins grabbed the board with enough time for one play.
The inbound pass went to Robertson in the back court. Robertson drove in the lane and kicked it out to Nikola Baran on the right baseline for the three with 0.4 second to play giving the Tars a three point advantage.
The killer for the Bucs was the 46 percent (6-13) shooting mark from the free-throw line for the game.
Barry ends one of the best years in school history after posting 20 wins and capturing their first ever NCAA Tournament win.
