MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.—The Barry Buccaneers completed a 2-0 weekend at the 2010 Little Feet Invitational hosted by Georgia College by beating the host Bobcats 3-0 at Bobcat Field on Sunday afternoon.

“We’re starting to play more consistent,” head coach Fred Jungemann said. “It was our third straight collective team performance, highlighted by our third straight shutout. This was a very difficult match. GSCU came out and fought hard for 90 minutes but our girls matched their intensity and got the result we deserved.”

Emma Karp got the Bucs (4-2-0) on the board in the 10th minute. Haley Struthers served a free kick into the box from 30 yards out and Karp ran on to flick it with her head past Mary Rob Plunket (1-3-0) in goal.

The Bucs added a pair of insurance goals from Melissa Madrid in the second half. In the 47th minute, Karp passed the ball up out of the midfield to Madrid who lofted a beautiful chip shot over the head of the 6-1 Plunkett and into the goal.

In the 82nd minute, Karp ripped a shot from the top of the 18-yard box that Plunkett barely got a hand on but could not control it and Madrid stepped up to slot home the rebound.

The Bucs held 31-17 edge in shots, including 12-8 on goal and led 7-3 in corners. Mikaela Barboza (3-0-0) had a career-high eight saves to preserve her third straight shutout. Plunkett had nine saves for the Bobcats (2-3-0).

The Bucs return home to start Sunshine State Conference play on Wednesday, Sept. 22 at 7:00 pm when the Lynn Fighting Knights come calling at Buccaneer Field.
