Women's Soccer Shutouts Tritons

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers closed out the season shutout of the Eckerd Tritons 4-0 at the Turley Athletic Complex on Thursday night. The Tritons (3-13-1, 0-8-0 SSC) failed to score in eight Sunshine State Conference games this season.

The Bucs (8-8-1, 3-4-1 SSC) scored in the 28th minute. Joanna Stewart sent a corner into the box and Morgan Ault flicked it over to Chelsea Stoeckigt for her first career goal.

The Bucs added three more tallies in the second period. Lainie Ferring poached a rebound at the top of the six-yard box in the 57th minute after a shot from Emma Karp was saved.

Haley Struthers added goals in the 70th and 88th minutes. In the 70th minute, Melissa Madrid’s shot hit the post and bounced right to Struthers for the finish. In the 88th minute, Ferring’s corner came far post to Struthers whose slide tackle sent the ball into the goal.

The Bucs held a 37-3 edge in shots as the Tritons barely attempted to push forward and Barry played most of the second half with just two defenders. Emily Brunnschweiler posted one save in her first shutout of the season. Kelly Zahorski had 12 saves for the Tritons.

The Bucs close out the regular season on Sunday, Oct. 31 at 4:00 pm at St. Thomas.
